Soil Structure

Image removed.Soil structure is the shape that the soil takes based on the arrangement of the solid parts and the pore spaces located between them. In other words it is the assemblage of the sand, silt and clay appearing in varying size of larger particles that are called aggregates. Soil structure is described in terms of grade (degree of aggregation), class (average size) and type (form or shape of individual aggregates). Five distinct classes (based on average size of individual aggregates) of soil structure are very fine, fine, medium, coarse and very coarse. The soil structure plays important role in moisture and water holding capacity of the soil as well as holding and leaching of inorganic and organic compounds in soil horizons.
